Mark D. Chappell
Mark was born in Ontario, California, and raised in Chester, South Carolina. He is a graduate of Rock Hill High School and earned a B.S in Finance and Economics from the University of South Carolina. Mark received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1984, and since then has devoted his time to handling catastrophic injury, product failure, complex workers' compensation, and personal injury cases.
Mark's numerous leadership positions include past President of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers, Chair of the South Carolina Bar Association's Judicial Qualifications Committee, Member of the South Carolina Bar Association's House of Delegates, and the Board of Governors of the American Association for Justice (formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association).
Mark is a South Carolina Supreme Court certified mediator, and is licensed to practice in all South Carolina state and federal courts and the District of Columbia. Mark has tried numerous cases in both state and federal court in South Carolina and North Carolina. Mark had the distinction of being appointed Chair of the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee representing nearly 100 race fans injured in the 2000 Charlotte Motor Speedway bridge collapse and he received the largest jury verdict in York County's history at $3.2 million dollars. Currently, Mark has been appointed as the Plaintiffs' Liaison Counsel in the In Re Graniteville Cases representing people injured in the 2005 Graniteville Train Derailment, which are pending before Judge Margaret B. Seymour in Federal District Court.
When not working, Mark enjoys spending time with his wife Susan and their four children.
